Challenges in fashion logistics
Fashion logistics makes wide-ranging demands on logistics systems, processes and logistics IT.
In the fashion and luxury goods industry, goods are often sold online in the company’s own shop, on external platforms such as Amazon or Zalando, and in stationary retail. Shipping processing from different channels, stock transfers between branches or between retail and wholesale must therefore be well coordinated. After all, customer expectations in terms of shipping speed, product availability and service are constantly rising.
Further challenges in fashion logistics arise from the large number of clothing and shoe sizes and the combination of different product groups. This raises the question of storage capacity and intelligent strategies for subsequent delivery. A wide range of functions and processes must be integrated into the material flow: Functions such as dispatch processing, packaging and preparation of returns, relabelling of inbound deliveries, picking and merging of hanging garments, valuables (e.g. watches, jewellery) or hazardous goods (e.g. Li-batteries, perfumes)
- Trade both in own webshops, external platforms and local stores
- Stock transfers between branches, locations and business units.
- Extensive functions and processes such as dispatch processing, packaging, preparation of returns, relabeling of inbound deliveries, picking and merging of hanging goods, valuables (e.g. watches, jewellery) or hazardous goods (e.g. Li-batteries, perfumes) must be taken into account in material flow planning
- Availability of a large number of garment and shoe sizes and thus the required high storage capacities and good processes for subsequent delivery are typical in fashion logistics.
- Combination of different product groups like apparel, footwear, accessories and perfume Special documentation and shipping
- requirements also apply to CITES products (products containing parts of certain wild animals or wild plants) and shipping to Russia (f.i. Crypto-Label).
- Other industry characteristics in fashion logistics are a strong seasonality of business and additional peaks in e-commerce (e.g. Black Friday).
Fashion logistics places a wide range of demands on logistics systems, processes and logistics IT. the aim of planning is to understand all requirements, to design the flow of materials sensibly and to identify suitable technology that can be combined into a functioning and economical overall system. Profit from our experience in fashion logistics
We optimize your logistics
Logistics systems must be able to cover peak loads and still be economical on an annual average. In fashion logistics planning, this can be achieved, for example, by intelligently combining automation and manual concepts to scale the available picking and storage capacity. In the field of storage technology, there are various modules, such as shuttle systems, sorters for flat-packed and hanging garments, packing lines and the connecting conveyor technology.
The aim of the planning is to understand all requirements, to design the material flow in a sensible way and to identify suitable technology that can be combined to form a functioning and economical overall system.
VCE GmbH has many years of experience in consulting, planning and implementation of logistics and IT systems for fashion logistics. Thanks to our special experience in the realization as well as in the operative optimization of logistics systems, we are able to answer operational questions in every planning phase and, if required, to take over the complete project management. VCE GmbH also has special industry knowledge in IT consulting in the areas of WMS, Omni-Channel, conveyor technology and carrier connection.
